Tree removal is a broad term that encompasses many of the more specific services that we provide here at Viking Tree Service. Tree felling is one of those more specific services that we’re referring to, and it’s something that should always be done by certified professionals – people who know exactly what they’re doing! Tree felling involves a lot more that sawing or chopping the bottom of the tree and hoping for the best! There’s an inexact science behind tree felling, and our knowledgeable team is highly skilled at this hazardous service. We say this all the time, but it bears repeating: DO NOT try to perform dangerous, unfamiliar tree services yourself! Even with the help of friends or neighbors, you could end up getting hurt or hurting someone else, doing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to surrounding property, or much worse!
Trust your tree services to a company that will handle them safely and professionally every time – Viking Tree Service!
You may think you can cut down a small tree on your property with relative ease, but trust us…it’s harder than it looks! You have to take into account the wind speed and direction, along with the shape and balance of the tree to be sure that it’s going to fall in the direction you intend. As you can imagine, the risks grow exponentially with the size of the tree.
Our team of arborists knows how to fell a tree so that it lands well away from any people or property. We also know when the conditions are too unsettled for tree felling. In this case, we will reschedule your service to a more suitable time. The precautions we take are for everyone’s safety, even our own. We wouldn’t put our team in a dangerous spot, just like we wouldn’t risk your safety or that of your family. Viking Tree Service is a responsible tree service company that puts people first!
Tree felling is a three-step process once our experts get down to business:
First, they’ll make a horizontal cut a few feet off the ground. This cut should be made in the direction that you want the tree to fall. Our team imagines every possible scenario before deciding the best direction for the tree to fall. Their cuts are made carefully and deliberately in order to dictate the direction of the felling area.
Next, they will make a wedge cut based on the horizontal cut. This wedge should go about ¼ of the way into the tree, but no more. This notch will make the tree fall in a controlled way rather than haphazardly, with no idea where it will land.
Finally, the team will make the final back cut. The team may need to use a felling wedge to get the tree falling in the correct direction, but after that, all they have to do is stand back and watch the tree hit the ground safely and in the exact spot that they planned.
Knowing how to make these cuts isn’t enough, though. Our team also has to protect our equipment. During the tree felling process, the tree can settle down onto the chainsaw, making it nearly impossible to get it back out unbroken. An amateur tree feller (yes, that’s really what they’re called!) will probably not know the little tricks of the trade and will likely damage lots of equipment before they figure some of these things out on their own. These are certainly not things that we’d expect homeowners to know, though! Viking Tree Service pros already know the simple tricks that will keep their equipment from getting damaged or broken.
Tree felling done by Viking Tree Service ensures that our professional arborists will be able to protect the trees and other surroundings of the tree in question. If the tree were to fall in any direction, it could cause damage to other trees and natural elements as well as your home and neighboring structures.
